Unwanted Facial or Body Hair
Suggested Treatments:
Modern culture has created standards for desirable levels of facial and body hair. In order to conform to society’s expectations, millions of individuals either hide areas of excessive hair, or attempt to reduce the amount of visible hair. Traditional methods of hair removal have included shaving, bleaching, plucking, waxing, use of chemical depilatories, and electrolysis. These techniques have been limited by their pain, inconvenience, and effectiveness. Although shaving is effective, simple, and inexpensive, it is a frequent chore that is unacceptable to many individuals. Plucking and waxing can provide removal of hair for several months, but these methods are quite painful, and can to lead to complications including ingrown hairs or scarring. Depilatories which work by dissolving the hair are messy and can cause skin irritation. Electrolysis, the first method to provide permanent hair reduction, is tedious, and is not practical for hair reduction over large body surfaces.
In the recent years, lasers have been developed and refined specifically to target the source of hair growth. The Candela GentleLase laser focuses light energy at the source of hair growth, the hair follicle. If the hair follicle is treated, its ability to produce new hair is minimized, and in many cases eliminated completely. Treatment of the follicle leads to fewer, finer hairs. Laser treatment provides permanent hair reduction with out all the mess, and hassle of more traditional treatments.
